Logitech Desktop Wave Combo Review

Recently I purchased a product package from Logitech, called the "Cordless Desktop Wave", which included the Wave wireless keyboard, the Wave wireless mouse, and the Wave wireless receivers. I was so impressed with this combo and the overall satisfaction of it, that I felt I had to write a review on this. Hopefully this is just one of many more product reviews that we feature from time to time in our articles, to defer from the usual headlines. This is opinionated of course, but I felt I'd like to share with you all about this device.

Getting started, when I first took the product out of the box, I was highly impressed with the appearance alone. It's very flashy and modern looking, along with some "flare" which really makes it stand out. Yet as we all know, you can never judge a book by it's cover, so let's dig deeper into the details and features of this package.

The keyboard. The keyboard itself, has integrated many features that are designed for newer Windows operating systems, such as Windows 7. The dedicated one touch controls, allow the user to instantly launch core Windows OS functions, such as "Flip 3D", zoom, photo gallery, media center, and many fully programmable "F" keys, in which you can fully customize all certain keys to open whatever applications, web pages, games, folders, or any other option you may choose.

The design for the keyboard is also impressive, as it has a "wave" shape, which allows for not only comfort, but smooth typing. There is a uniform key size, which allows each key to remain constant through the entire curve of the keyboard, as well as making each keystroke easily processed. The keys are also designed for a remarkably quiet operation. The overall feel of the keys is outstanding, and also fascinating.

The keyboard of course has a typical three way height adjustable tilt, which is designed to maximize the comfort of the user. Speaking of comfort, along the lower half of the keyboard, lies a custom contoured palm rest, which is cushioned, and fully assists in helping to position and rest your palms and wrists comfortably along the keyboard. This is another one of many features that makes the keyboard really stand out, and adds to that perfect "feel" of the device.

The keyboard is also built to last, designed by Logitech with over 25 years of implementations into it. If purchased new, it also comes with a five year warranty, amongst other guarantees. For those of use whom never actually look at our keyboards while using them, they have also implemented a flashing LED battery indicator to tell you when the batteries need replaced. There is also the benefit of extended battery life, which promises up to fifteen, yes fifteen months of usage on a single pair of batteries. Amazing.

The keyboard is not alone in containing the best of features, as the mouse also has many great functions. The tilt wheel is also able to control the "Flip 3D" feature of newer Windows operating systems, allowing you to scroll it in multiple directions. Along the side of the mouse, there are page back and page forward buttons, that can be depressed using either the thumb or pinky fingers, with ease. There is an on and off switch also located under the mouse, along with a connect/search button.

The design of the mouse is impressive, with a high performance laser, which implements state of the art technology to deliver exceptional precision. The rubber grips and contoured sides allow enhanced support and comfort as well. The first time I moved the mouse, I felt as if it were faster on the lowest possible speed setting, than most typical mouses are completely maxed out. This is beneficial for a multiple tasking fanatic like myself, and becomes useful as you get used to it.

The mouse fits perfectly into your palm, even more so than any mouse I have ever used personally, and that's saying alot as I'm typically not a fan of wireless or laser guided mouses. This one is heavily accurate, down to dotting the "i's" and crossing the "t's". This is great for designers, or anyone in a field that requires the ultimate precision. Rest assured this mouse is capable of handling any task set forth in front of it.

Much like the keyboard, the mouse also carries a 5 year protection plan, and also, promises up to six months on a pair of batteries. This remains to be seen, as most wireless mouse devices will burn up batteries in a matter of a few days, with heavy use. I have used it with force already and not seen any slowing or delays in my processing of tasks.

The plug and play receiver has two options, with either using a wired USB base, or a hassle free mini USB receiver. The rand of this wireless base, is said to be a minimum of up to eight feet in diameter, although I have tested it up to twelve feet and it performed just as it would within inches from the base. No lag, no delay, just precision and accuracy each time.

This is beneficial to those whom only have minimal high speed USB ports available, and also beneficial to those whom are on laptops. It also eliminates the clutter from the desktop, as the wired USB base also has an additional built in USB port, to replace the one that it is using. If you choose to use the mini USB card, you will see no difference, in fact, it works just as well.

I must say, that after using this product, I couldn't imagine ever trying to use another keyboard of mouse again. I had absolutely fallen into a deep love affair with them both, and without the overall satisfaction I get from using them, I could see myself taking a hammer to any other "old-fashioned" keyboard or mouse.

Amongst my rating of this product, I had to consider five things that would decide the overall rating. Performance, Precision, Durability, Comfort, and Reliability. My rating of the Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave keyboard and mouse combo are as follows.

Performance, 5 out of 5
Precision, 5 out of 5
Durability, 5 out of 5
Comfort, 5 out of 5
Reliability, 5 out of 5

So hands down this combination of devices proves itself to be a powerhouse of necessity for all and any task you plan to use it for. I was beyond impressed, and as I have stated, I'm not typically a wireless fanatic. This is a supreme mouse, and a supreme keyboard, offering you a feel, design, and use, that is clearly unmatchable.
